Fractions you can see and touch

A fraction is easiest to grasp when you can see it. This tool draws a pizza and lets a child tap slices to build a fraction: the numerator counts the slices they pick, the denominator is the total number of parts. Cut the pizza into anywhere from 2 to 12 pieces, and the fraction updates as slices light up — and it even reads the fraction out in words, like "three quarters".

Compare and find equivalents

Switch to Compare mode to place two pizzas side by side. Fill each one and the tool shows a less-than, equals or greater-than verdict, so a child can discover that two different-looking fractions — like one half and two quarters — cover exactly the same amount of pizza. Seeing equivalence this way builds intuition long before rules about common denominators.

How do I show equal fractions with a pizza?
